Mr. Bell's performance can be summed up in four words: technically perfect, artistically brilliant! I loved how the encore pieces were exact opposites! And the Mendelsohn was brilliant. I commented to a friend after he performed Estrellita in such a tender, delicate & touching way, "I can die now because I'm already in heaven".
A brilliant performance by Mr. Bell. The Mendelssohn concerto was remarkable. Bell showed exactly why is is considered one of the best violinists, if not musician, of our time. The cadenza in the first movement of the concerto was a surprising, all-be-it welcome, change. Composed by Bell it harcked back to the true meaning of the cadenza where the soloist shows his own musical, and virtuosic skill and not just the skills of the composer. And the pure emotion put into the performance was astonishing! He poured his heart and sould into the whole performance and it radiated into the concert hall. He really makes you feel the music as you listen. I was shaking with adrenaline at the end.
For an encore Bell performed Estrellita and selectons from "The Red Violin". The Pope's Concert piece was especially noteable. Showing his true virtuosic skill Mr. Bell performed this difficult piece very well.
A brilliant performance anda wonderful night. The orchestra was outstanding and Joshua Bell was at his best! I can only he hope he makes another showing in this region again next year!
Fantastic performance. Joshua Bell displayed his technical and musical abilities with a remarkable performance of the Mendelssohn. The cadenza (composed by Bell himself) started with a pleasing summation of the first movement and lead into a quasi-introspective foreshadowing of the remaining movements. It was stylistically flawless and, as always, Mr. Bell’s execution was impeccable. Bravo!
